The exhibition
The title ‘The Upright Man’ refers to the central theme and the driving force of Martin’s artistry. Man in his orientation towards himself and the world, the human condition and the condition of life.

This theme is also central to his work as a coach and mentor.

As a result, it is more than logical for Martin that both areas mutually inspire and influence each other.

The result of this can be seen in this exhibition.

About Martin Schelstraete
For both disciplines, the following applies to him: “In my work I explore my own world, my perception and myself: in short, the ‘human condition’. Exploring personal emotions and experiences, and connecting them to universal values”

About expressing himself as a visual artist, he says:

“Images are a universal language for depicting and communicating experiences, emotions and feelings. They can depict and capture unmentionable things/the unspeakable like ‘atmosphere’ and ‘mood’.”

In the 80’s Martin studied drawing for 3 years at the art academy of St. Niklaas, Belgium. In 2011 he graduated from the Wackers Academy of fine arts Amsterdam. Since then, he has exhibited regularly. His work is purchased by private collectors at home and abroad.
